I have a 20 gauge Rem 1100. It cycles perfectly, almost all the time. The problem used to be that it wouldn't release the bolt to load the next shell laying on the shell lifter. This happened every time. In diagnosing the original problem, I could see that the shell lifter catch pin was bent and the original lifter was worn. I got replacement parts for those items.

When I used the trigger group from a working gun, it worked fine. So I know it has nothing to do with the magazine spring or either of the shell stops/releases.

Now with the new parts - carrier lifter group and latch - the gun will cycle properly about 2/3 of the time. Like I said, with a good trigger group it functions 100% so there is either something else in the trigger group or the replacement parts need to be 'tuned' or something.

Any thoughts?

I have shot many thousands of rounds out of Rem 1100's and 11-87's at skeet and for hunting. When that problem occurred, and it did several times, I cured it by removing the magazine follower and cleaning the follower and magazine tube so the cartridge was ejected from the magazine with more force to hit and release the elevator latch. The spring was never weak; the follower was dirty and the added drag prevented the shell from striking hard enough to release the feed latch. I also cured that ailment in a Browning Gold the same way.
