I've got an older Remington 1100 that I'd like to tacticalize, and need some help and advice.

It's got two large sight towers on the stock barrel, front and back, that I'd like to remove. Any ideas on how they come off. Almost looks like it's welded or soldered, but there is a small hairline gap all the way around it.

The front one I'm not too worried about because the barrel is going to be shortened to 18.5" so it will be removed when that happens. The rear sight tower is very much in my way.

I'd like to get rid of it to install an ATI heat sheild and Ghost Rings on top of the barrel.

Any help would be appreciated.

If anybody has any better sight options, I'd love to hear them. I'm not set on this plan and am open to ideas.

Thanks

im not too sure about the sights, but I do know the gas ports will need to be drilled out a shade to ensure reliability to cycle and function, it may short stroke or not fully eject with trap loads or low powered ammo with a shorter barrel.

The sight ramps are silver soldered on. They have to be heated up nearly red hot to melt the silver solder. Once removed you will have a small blind hole in the barrel where the locating pin was.

Sounds like a job for a qualified gunsmith and not an amateur with a hacksaw, a screw driver and a mallet.

With that information I should probably re-think this project.
