Was in the market for a Shotgun, something semi-auto, something 'tactical' :ninja:

Spoke with Target Sports, they checked with their supplier and found this beauty: Model 1100 TAC-2

Now this is where it gets interesting... Target has received the gun with a 7 shot magazine, which makes it Prohibited. :runaway:.

Not a problem for them, they can pin the magazine for me @ 5. Everything was on track, called the CFO to register the item in my name... Their records show that it is a RESTRICTED firearm :runaway:.

To the casual observer; as stated on the specifications the barrel length is specified at 18", BUT when accurately measured the barrel length is ~18.56". Which puts into the NR classification

To make it short Target has sent in the verifiers report to the CFO for reclassification, I have not heard anything yet but I am hopeful that all will work out:)

I can't help but feel very satisfied with the situation, I feel that we are breaking new ground here and with the eventual success of the reclassification a whole slew of people may find new interest in this particular firearm.

Will keep you posted with the results.

Excellent! I have one and the only thing keeping it from being my favorite shottie is that I can't walk around in the bush with it. Let us know what happens!

That is awesome news! I wanted one and they were sold out and no more were coming, I was told.

Please keep us informed as to how this shakes out!

Remington has obviously changed the length of their barrels recently. They used to be 18" and were obviously shorter than the mag tube, by about 1/2". Now they've extended them to be flush with the mag tube but they still refer to them as 18" instead of 18.5". Not sure of the logic on that one.

I'd like one of those shotguns but I was put off by the price. Craftsman built a very similar looking shotgun using an old beat up 1100. I might do the same when I can scrape up the cash.

Keep in mind that the mag tube needs to be plugged so that it can not accept a sixth round of 3 inch ammo, not so that it barely accepts a fift round of 2 3/4......

The engravings on the 2 3/4" receiver got filled with solder and Durafill then Duracoated Olive Drab Green with the extension.

The trigger group assembly got new springs as did the magazine. The old follower came out and was replaced by a Wilson Combat. Wood was replaced with a black synthetic set . The mag extension got an aluminum plug pressed in, so it doesn't allow a sixth round to be loaded. The new bead is a Meprolight Tritium lamp for shotgun bead threads (#6-48). Wilson Combat makes the sling loop on the front of the magazine tube. The engraved chromed breech block got replaced by a chromed non-engraved one I picked-up at a gun show this spring. The tactical charging handle is made by Choate.

The picture is the one that Craftsman441 took, I haven't got around to taking a new one.

Any update???

Gunnutz the news is........

Original Subject: Remington 1100 Tactical Reclassification

Status: RECLASSIFIED

So heres the story: (Well... my account)

Up until a few years ago the Rem1100 was manufactured with an 18" barrel; somewhere along the way the increased the barrel length to be flush with the Mag. extension (3 Shot). Physically measuring the barrel (In the appropriate way) yields a number greater that 18.5"; learning this, a verifiers report was submitted.

The reclassification was awarded to this particular 1100, and needs to be handled on a case-by-case basis.

So,

1) First measure down the barrel with action closed; check to see if you're even close to 18.5"

2) Make an appointment with a verifier in your area and have them review and submit the appropriate paperwork to the CFO.

3) Wait...

Again, this is a case-by-case basis; this is not blanket coverage. You are encouraged to spread the word.

Kudos to Target for identifying the problem and initiating the appropriate steps!!

You, too, could have a Remington 1100-18(.5)......... BUSHMASTER :pirate:

If I ordered from Target Sports, would they co-ordinate all this for me (for a small fee), do you think? Do they have more in stock?

Good going man, and thanks for the update!
