Went to assemble an 1187 and found a part in the bag I've never seen before.

Part 45A, shown near the barrel muzzle in the picture.
Does it slip over the barrel lug end after the barrel goes on ?

I've never seen this part before on an 11-87

Looks like a 1993 barrel date code, letter N......but never seen the wolf, dog ? Stamp either.

It goes on after the barrell then the forend and cap. It is a shield for the gas clip. Not necessary for 2 3/4 inch target barrels that don't use the gas clip but Remington put them in anyways.

Terrific, thanks very much.

That's the way I assembled it, seemed like the only place that made sense.

I put dozens of these 1100 family guns together but can't ever recall seeing this part.

Learned somthing new today.

That is why I never tried my Hand on Watches :D
I had a good teacher, this gun was stripped completely and all cleaned up in an ultrasonic cleaner.

All dried with compressed air and then each part coated in a light film of oil and wiped down.

I'll shoot it tomorrow but except that one minor hiccup with the gas cap it went together like the dozens of others.

This one has a nice chunk of wood on it.

Might sell it , not sure yet.
