Remington 121 stiff pump

Just picked up a nice Remington 121 fieldmaster 22 pump. Really like it so far, but I find the pump is really stiff. After every shot, it takes a good amount of force to cycle it. I have fired other pump 22's like a browning bpr and it did not seem nearly as stiff. What can be done to loosen it up a bit?

It should not be stiff to pump. My best guess is that a good cleaning and light lube will make a world of difference. Any chance one of the pump handle screws has been changed and is a tad too long or just over tightened?

Ill check out the screws and see if I can take it apart and clean it up. I really like this rifle but thats the one nagging issue.
