The R1 produced better grouping then the SR1911 by almost a half an inch. They tested with various ammo weights and style, and averaged the group results. They tested @25 yards, again clamped in a Ransom Rest to rule out any human factor.
They compaired the R1 / SR1911 results to there testing of 3 Springfields - the GI1911A1, Loaded 1911A1, Trophy Match, and the S&W 1911 - the R1 outgrouped them all!
They also field stripped the weapons, after testing - both pistols did not show any excessive wear, and frame slide fit was rated exceptional.
Seems to be the Remington is a better buy the then SR1911. They stated the R1 is on par with many custom guns.
I was able to find the results of the test below. all numbers are in inches.
The Remington R1 Enhanced = 1.49
SR 1911 =1.94
Older Data (from another testing they did from a few months back - it was listed in the article for comparison
Springfield Armory GI 1911A1 = 3.50
Springfield Armory Loaded 1911A1 = 2.89
Springfield Armory Trophy Match 1.89
Smith & Wesson SW1911 = 2.01
the only thing to note is that the test was run with the R1 Enhanced which from the retails I've seen is about 30% more than the base R1 and 22% more than the Ruger SR1911
I was able to fondle one in Reliable a few weeks ago and the R1s was VERY tight and didn't wiggle or make any noise when I jostled it around. seems like a very good value for the money but to get the extra features not sure it's worth the extra $180 to go with non-stainless with the extra features. Might want to go with a R1s and add on the extras then you still have a stainless gun.
