Remington 1911R1 .45 ACP

Anyone got an opinion/experience re: the Remington 1911R1 .45 pistol and how it compares to other entry-level 1911s?
I'm looking for a gun eligible for the "Wild Bunch" style of match - my tricked out Gold Cup is just a tad over-the-top for that .....

I know the Remington uses a cast frame, CNC machined and MIM parts to keep down costs. Reviews on the net are generally favourable; complaints centreing on rough feed ramps, gritty triggers, etc., the usual for a 1911. Most were early production guns as well. Can't be worse than a standard Series '70 I owned.

Who stocks Springfield .45s in Canada? It's another I've considered. I know where Remingtons can be found.

I have a R1, no problems with it and accurate. I like the trigger, don't know what the pull is on it, but it is about middle of the road compared to others I have tried. No feeding issues and I didn't polish anything. Just took it out of the box and started shooting. If you are in the Ottawa area and want to feel one up, let me know.

Have not had any feeding issues but have only used ball ammo so far. Trigger is the best of my four pistols being striker, da/sa and two sa. Fit and finish is great and accuracy.. well i am more accurate with it than the othersbut iam sure they are all more accurate than I am.

I think they are a nice looking gun...the only possible negative I've heard some describe is that it's a series 80 design.

The R1 is a decent 1911 for the money. The finish is nice and the double diamond grips make it look good. The sights I find are too tall and weird looking. I replaced mine with some custom made GI sights. I also wish the trigger was a bit longer and matched the rest of the guns finish instead of the aluminum. Had to change that too. Give it a trigger and action job as well as remove the S80 innards and she's nice. Very nice. Try Reliable Gun in Vancouver, that's where mine came from.
