Remington 20ga hull ID ?

I have quantities of 2 3/4" ShurShot HVY Dove short brass ,smooth base with a 6pt fold crimp............secondly 2 3/4" Rem/Peters Field short brass smooth also with 6 pt fold crimp.
Data I have in a Winchester reloading book is for Rem/Peters RXP hulls? In the Lyman 4th edition data for Rem RTL Premier and Rem uni-body SP . Which which is which? Confusing ......I will be using either Win 571 and or Blue Dot.

6 or 8 point Crimp is irrelevant for the data used, but matters when you use the wrong crimp starter. Cut one of each of your hull styles in half with a hacksaw or similar. If the body walls and base are all the same material, you can use all those hull types with the same data - Rem/Peters RXP, Rem RTL Premier, and Rem uni-body SP.
The exception is Remington hulls with the old style separate fibre base wad, and some that had a separate plastic base wad, usually a different colour. Those require different data.

I am aware of the crimp being irrelevant but that's how Lyman ID's specific brass styles by their crimp,base and outer body material........smooth or ribbed etc.These are the same by the looks of them.No fibre on these. Found a few recipes for 1oz and Blue Dot. Thanks

Did up a couple hundred tonight crimps look nice 1oz loads/ #5 shot /Win 209 primer/22grs of Blue Dot/SP20 wad/1200 fps. Should work fine on pheasants and the like.Found a few stray Club Rem hulls with the 8 point crimp so had put them aside as I was running 6pt. Thanks for the assistance on hull ID looks like it worked out.

That should be a good load. And I really like 5's for big late season pheasants. And 1200 fps is the sweet spot for velocity. Happy hunting!

I usually hunt without a dog so resist the urge to pound birds at my boots.I let them get out 25-35 yards and then give them some loving.
