I have an opportunity to purchase this scope from the original owner of my Remington 40XBR who bought both as a package in 1973. Both the rifle and the scope are in mint condition. Was wondering if there are any BR shooters out there who might comment on how these externally adjustable scopes compare to modern optics as far as clarity, brightness, and resolution etc. Aside from the sentimental merit of reuniting the two, should I just stick with my Leupold target scope and forget about it? It comes complete with tube, mounts, bases and factory literature. It's a blast from the past so to speak but can the scope still cut it? He's not exactly asking peanuts for it.

It may have collector value, especially as an original scope/rifle combo for Remington collectors.

But time and technical advances have passed it by as a competitive optic for modern BR or F class.

I have one and when changing parallax the image moves as the front threads don't seem to be concentric. Its no advantage having 1.5 lb of scope sliding back and forth on the receiver with a spring returning it to battery.

The folks that would be interested in such a scope would be, more retro(classic) inclined shooters wanting something for an old school single shot or target rifle, esp. something from the 50s-60s......Like me!

i use a br24 scope for silhouette High power and had it rebuilt @ korth under warranty no charge. I was haveing issues with clarity and tracking. Korth rebuilt scope with new objective & tracking. Now very bright and i love it. This Br 24x has close focus 10 meter, great for practice dry fire and excellect clarity.

You better run and get that scope at the very least, these are still top quality and very usefull in Benchrest! I have 20XBR Remington (Mike Walker) scope on my custom Rem 700 in 6PPC, and I found no wanting, actually anyone who has tryed it out was quite impressed and many wanted to buy it from me, but its priceles as it was the first true target scope I ever bought! This scope was enventually built by Unertyle as the BV-20:D

If you aren't interested, please pass on the info to me ,PM me anytime, sincerley Dale Z;)

Bwilliams I think you must be mistaken, how did you get Leopold warranty to cover a Remington built scope from the 1960's?

My scope is a Leupold br 24x made in USA, serviced by Leupold USA & installed 3/8 dot and recently totally rebuilt in Canada by Korth ind. Sorry too much wine, Remmington scope is another discussion..

Maybe B Williams thinks it is a Leupold BR24.... I wondered what Korth was doing fixing that Remington Scope.

I don't know what kind of BR competition you are doing. Plinking off a bench?

But these scopes are definitely obsolete for modern BR competition and I wouldn't use one in Fclass either.

Norm I shoot in a local league at 100 - 300 yards and have a great time! I do not play the F-Class game as I really would have to spend alot of time and $$ in travel as I am inthe middle of nowhere and its not econimical or fun to me?

But these older Unertyle type scopes are one of the finest I have ever used! I have ever type of Leopold scope at one time or another, and there fine, but I just don't gett any enjoyment out of using modern technology! I have Litcherst's, Redfield's, Remingtons on all my target rifles and have fun, that is the name of the game to me! I am glad you like all the new stuff as this way I get great deals on this old no good for nothing scopes, hahaha.
Norm have you ever had a Remington BR scope? and if so what is the problems you see in using this in F-Class?
And Norm I do not" plink off a bench" I have custom built rests and all the other goodies that go along with this sport. I for one am glad one one of the older fellows comes to shoot as you learn so much from them that is still technically helpful today and makes the days shoot memorable! Nothing like seeing and old Hart 1960-70's 222 rig get brought out and fireD!

Quadra did you go pick up this vintage no good for nothing scope?remember this vintage scope user, right here if not! cheers Dale Z!
