Hi, just recently purchased two 504's and both have loose bolt handles. One is quite loose fitting - both had metal filings when I pulled the handles out of the bore of the bolt. The design of this bolt handle fastened to the bolt is quite wimpy to say the least! I did some reading and most suggested silver solder. Looking for some opinions on other methods that would work and if anyone would like to tackle this job - send me a PM if interested. Thanks

When I had one I took the bolt handle out and reinstalled it with a couple drops of red loctite. Once dried it took the wiggle out and eliminated the potential for further wear.

There might be better solutions but it's what I had on hand and it was still holding up for as long as I had it.

Epoxy ?? You can always 'cook it out' if you wish to change it. Just 1-step beyond the Loctite, which I would also consider sufficient to the task.

Epoxy, is that like a liquid metal? Will have to check out what is available........thanks!

I could probably get away with that on the one handle as it is quite snug but the other is too loose........thanks for your input!

For a once in a lifetime fix-

Precision TIG weld the handle....Done!

Would TIG welding require the metal to be re-blued? Is this be a specialized welding procedure or would the local welding shop typically have the experience to do this procedure properly? Thanks

Not a specialized process.
Ask if the local shop welder is capable of TIG welding under/thru a microscope!!

Done correctly-
The silver braze needs to be removed from the bolt handle & bolt body, manually w/a #2-#4 Swiss pattern needle file.
Fixtured
TIG welded w/ filler wire, not fusion TIG welded.
Blended.

Simple by comparison to a 788 bolt/handle.

Hundreds & hundreds welded to date.
