I have been interested in a remington 504 22 lr rifles for a long time but have heard mixed reviews. If anyone has one please let me know what you think them.

Thanks

They are a nice handy little rifle. Unfortunately, many of them did not afford reasonable accuracy. Possibly due to a lack of quality control at Remington. I had one and sold it when I wanted something else more. You might find more information be going to rimfirecentral.com
There was also a 504T with a heavy barrel and a laminated stock. Many were rebarreled in their infancy with Lilja and the likes.

If you get a good one they are as good as a rimfire can be and extremely accurate.

The action is the smoothest I have ever worked on a rimfire.

If you get a bad one you will pull your hair out trying to get it to shoot but the option is there to rebarrel to a Lilja, and even then there are no guarantees.

I have a 504T HB. It has a Shilen [factory] barrel and a laminated stock. It is accurate enough to give my 541's a run for their money, and is a solid smooth action. It does have a match chamber as well. Regards, Eagleye.

Save your money and find an old Remington 541 and you will be alot happier with your purchase and it will only go up in value. The Rem 504's I have seen are not very well finished for the $$$ and it seems everone rebarrells them to get an accurate rifle. Failing all this buy a Cooper or Kimber classic for a $200 bucks more and all you have to do is shoot the thing, no aftermarket crap has to be bought and replaced on these, just my 2 cents worth as it seems quality control at Remington is lacking these days. Rem 504

Save your money on all the Remington's. I have owned them all. My Browning and Winchester model 52 Reproduction's both outshoot all the Remington's. They are much nicer rifles, with a better trigger.

.......NOT!! I have browning and Winchester 52 Repros as well, and outshoot the quality Remingtons they do not. They are fine, accurate rifles, but trail the 541's, the 504T HB and of course, the 40X in accuracy. The difference is plainly noticeable at 100 yards and beyond. I have won 100 meter BR matches with the 541's [sporter class] and the 40X,[HB] but every match I have taken the 52's to have been 3 place or lower. Eagleye.

40x

Hey no one mentioned the 40X!!. I have owned a 541S, a 541T, and a 504 sporter. My 52 Repros outshoot all three!! The 541T trigger was horrible!!. Now a 40X I would have to agree to be a very nice rifle, they also cost a lot more! Just my experience, but my 52's shoot very well, and better than the Remington's I have owned.

Jes pullin' your chain, pardner. ;) Each of us have experiences. some differ from others. Maybe your 541's just were not the very best shooters. Mine happen to be stellar performers for sporter weight rimfires. My Winchester 52B repro is quite accurate, but it would never touch the 541T [very early version], 541S nor my 504T HB. [I know it's hardly fair throwing the 40X in there, but it is a Remington. :D] My experience with a 504 sporter was spotty until I threw a Lilja Match EPS barrel on it. That smartened it right up!
