A Remington 597 AAC-SD chambered in .22LR arrived this week so I thought I'd post up a quick review for anyone interested in this rifle.
Overview:
Semi auto .22LR weighs 5.5 LBS
Last-shot Bolt hold open
1/2''-28 threaded 16.5'' Barrel
40'' Overall length
1 - 10 Shot factory magazine
First thing I did upon receiving the rifle was take it apart for a thorough cleaning. The gun disassembles easily with 2 Allen screws and a small take down pin.
Lower receiver/trigger assembly is plastic
Right away I found that the guide rod screws were too tight from the factory. This seems to be the most common cause of FTF and FTE. After cleaning and lubing everything, I tightened the screws to finger tight and then backed them both off a 1/4 turn.
Barrel is threaded 1/2''-28 and comes with a thread protector installed
It will accept similarly threaded flash hiders/muzzle breaks/fake suppressors
After getting the gun back together I swapped over my 3-9X40 Redfield Revolution scope
I didn't have much time so I only managed to get 150 rounds through it at the range. I had 3 different ammo's which i tried. First up was 50 rounds of CCI Blazer which all fed with no problems and seemed to group fairly accurately at 50 yards. Next up was 50 rounds of Federal 40gr. solid which again all cycled with no issues. Lastly I put 50 rounds of cheap 36 gr. Winchester Expert HV though it. This ammo caused the only two failures I experienced which were 2 FTF.
Overall Impression:
I'm very happy with the rifle, its a cool looking .22 with the short threaded barrel. I got it for a great price through Le Baron. Fit and finish was good. Rifle functioned fine. Trigger pull seems a little heavy (Hammer upgrade would solve this). I need to get more magazines for the rifle but finding a reliable hi-cap seems to be a common issue.
Hope you enjoyed
