So I've been tinkering with my 597 lately, to see what kind of performance I can get out of it.

It's the bone stock model, and the only internals swapped so far was the original hammer for a Volquartzen.

Big improvement in the trigger pull for sure, nice and smooth instead of breaking like glass.

The rifle wasnt free floating from the factory, so carefully I went with a couple different sized dowels and sandpaper.

So far so good.....almost. I've noticed the factory stock is flimsy, and has a tendancy to move to one side near the front.

I've had the stock off probably ten times just to take off a little more, slowly but surely. Theres plenty of room on each side of the barrel.

When shooting, you can tell when the barrel starts touching, the groups go bizarre! (I'm assuming this is the cause).

I guess the bottom line is, what is the best way to stiffen up the fore end a bit to see if this is my problem??

I'm not trying to turn a pigs ear into a silk purse, but boy, when this rifle is on, its on. Looking for repeatable accuracy.

Thanks in advance.

i have seen people use expanding foam in car frames to stiffen them up, but i dont know how well it'd work in a gun stock since its alot more open. i also don't know if the foam actually sticks to things, so it just might fall out of the stock. you could probably try it anyways and take it out if it doesn't work. no idea if its expensive or not though.
oh ya, might be flammable. probably is. i guess its probably not a good idea then.
