I git a remington 579 a few months back and have shot roughly 200-300 rounds through it. Then today it started jamming after every shot. So i took it apart to clean to see if that was the problem when i noticed there was a spring in the reciver that was bent and not working properly . I am wondering if these parts will be easy to get and easy to fix . And is it even worth fixing ?

Can you take a picture of the spring that's bent? Most of the parts should be available from Western Gun Parts in Edmonton but if it's only a few months old it should be covered by warranty. I have had two 597's and had some trouble with the trigger group on one of them but the rest of the action has been great.

I got Williams Arms to order whatever I needed, easier than trying to contact Remington and getting frustrated!! The most important thing to remember is not to tighten the guide rods, set screws in just until they touch the rods and back off a 1/4 turn. My VTR runs like a top after making sure of this.

Thanks fir the info guys ill prob just take it into williams arms and see what they can do im oretty new to guns so would rather just get it fixed if it aint to expensive

My rem 597 works pretty good. I havent had many jams, misfires etc. However I did run into a problem during cleaning it once and bent the 'Hold Open Spring' a little. Got it back the way it was before and has been working fine since. What kind of rounds are you using ? Mine likes most brands from the 5-6 bulk packs Ive tried.

Same problem on the hold open . I removed the hold open & never had another problem

Could u pist a pic of this hold open spring? And i was shootin blazers first then got some remington thunder so i dont think its the ammo

If its bent just try and bend it back in place, as long as it doesnt snap. Mine happened when I was cleaning the area and got a little rough when scrubbing the area and it came a little loose. I bent it back the way it use to look and now its fine. If it breaks Im sure you can find some small wiring and make your own with some needle nose pliers to get the little loops the right size. I might try and remove the pin if it happens again and see how it works.

Without the LRHO, just watch your shots. Count your load and fire accordingly so you don't go dry-firing. Good thing I noticed with my R 597HB, it seems to be dry-fire safe. I do not see any contact between the Firing Pin and Breech face. General rule of the thumb, DO NOT DRY-FIRE RIMFIRE firearms. Better safe than sorry. As most people said, if the rail is bent, loosen up the tensioning screw by at least a 1/4 turn. Oven-tensioning forces the rail to bend causing cycling issues. Also, try CCI Mini mags or any HV Round-Nosed plated ammo. A few CCI Stingers might do the trick until the break-in point is achieved (YMMV). Clean and lubricate the rifle before going back to range.

Safe Shooting
