So I bought a remington 597 earlier. Fired about 50 shots. Noticed something loose in the receiver. Pulled it apart and found this. Its plastic. Gun still functions properly but bolt has a little bit of resistance I think.
I believe that is a retainer for one of the linkage pins in the trigger group. It looks like a bushing but acts as a press-on nut for the linkage. I think it is the part at the end of the green arrow in the picture. I had a similar problem with my new 597 but it was the pressed in pin shown by the red arrow that fell out after about 30 rounds from new. The correct repair would be to return the rifle if the seller will take it back. In my case they did not have another one and the only option was to send it away to the Remington repair center and wait a few weeks for it. I chose to repair it myself. There are only 3 pins holding the entire trigger mechanism into the trigger group housing. I knocked out the pins with a small pin punch and pressed the pin back in using my vise and a small socket. I put a dab of red locktite on the pin for peace of mind. I have fired about 200 rounds since with no problems. Not too hard if you are inclined to repair it rather than return the gun. It's very easy to get the trigger group out to inspect where the part comes from.
I had the same problem. But i was out in a sand pit and it fell out. Well that little round plastic looked like every other sand/rock. I haven't found it and the gun still funtions flawlessly after over 1000 rounds.
