Remington 597 Question

From what I could find there seems to be no difference in accuracy so I got the standard model. It is quite accurate and like all 22's pickey about ammo. Being an autoloader they like relatively hot ammo to cycle properly but I like the quiet rem subsonics so I replaced the hammer spring with a reduced pressure AR-15 spring and life is good.

I have the one you are talking about in .17hmr.It's the most fun too shoot gun I own.Ammo's cheap and I can smash clays at 200m with it all day.Hopefully I'll be using it on gophers VERY soon!:)

I would agree that the 597 is a lil more accurate then the 10/22, I can say that b/c I own both :p . But my 597 is not half as reliable as my 10/22. I have been to rimfirecentral and read ALL the stickies about tweaking the stock gun and I have NO aftermarket parts and have NOT sanded or polished anything on it, and I clean it all the time. Seem like about every 10-20 rounds I'll get a FULL AUTO burst of 2-3 shots with 1 pull of the trigger. The 597 was my second Remington gun and I won't be buying another one, I'm pretty sure of that. I think they really need to take a look at what is going on at their company and do more research and up the QC somewhat. I've heard that the company was sold just this month to some big firm of some sort. I hope that they turn Remington around and put out some quality for a change so people buying their products in the future do not have to go through the same crap that I did. Sory for the rant

I have the synthetic stocked 597 in .22WMR and - with about a 1000 rounds through it so far - have never experienced a feeding or firing problem (I use CCI ammunition).

I'm quite happy with the rifle and have found it to be extremely accurate.

I agree and I use all sorts of ammo, from cheap Armscor good CCI, never once had a feed or fire failure. I even picked up 6 extra mags from LeBaron (Cause they were under $14ea). I only ever hear bad things about the .22LR version.

Mine in the HB/LS .17 groups like a shotgun...Share the experience and buy one as well:mad:

Could you elaborate please? I'll admit I'm only shooting 1"@100 with a 6x scope about 50% of the time. Have you checked your barrel for floating? I had to do 15minutes of sanding to make sure mine floated with two sheets of paper.

Bought a Blued Synthetic 597 on Saturday. I love it!

Fired 700-odd rounds already. She seems to perform well with the Federal game shock 36grn Hi-V HP rounds. That's good because they're only $17 for 525 rds at the local crappi tyre.

My rifle came with a Bushnell .22 Rim Fire 3-9x32 scope. Nice scope, but I hate the tip-off rings, so I replaced them with Millett Angle Lock Rings and installed the Remington weaver base.

What a sweet rifle. So long as you don't over tighten the guide rod screws, you should have no troubles.

Now for the Harris bipod to arrive with more mags and a Volquartsen extractor and hammer. Gotta polish the bolt an trigger group.... Maybe I'll install the Eagle muzzle break.............

It's an illness...

...but at least you've got lots of company!

(the VQ accessories work great)

I tried one a couple of years ago ...returned it after a day because it would not group less than 1" @ 25M and would not feed properly. Obviously, the gun I had was not representative of the experience many others have had ...
