So I purchased a new Remington 597 VTR, right away I purchased the VQ extractor and hammer.

So I went to install it today and started with the hammer took it apart and went to look on a website that was posted a while back that had directions as to how to do it, the website is gone. So after searching all over the net, I found absolutely nothing on how to do it. So 3 hours later I re assembled the trigger group with a little luck and a whole lot of swearing.

Second I did the extractor, was a 2 second process....easy peazy.......

Then came re assembly of the whole gun, everything went together like butter accept when it came to the side facia plates, for some strange reason the wholes only lined up on one side it was the strangest thing. The gun was put together properly, I checked it 5 times, and still the holes wouldnt line up. So I just muscled them into place and that was that.

To top it all of, Remingtons manual is for the 597 magnum....HAS NOTHING ON THE VTR!!!!!!!

All in all a stressful day, and thought I would share it with you all.

Im taking it to the range to site it in tomorrow, ill let you know if it blows up.

Range Update

Took the 597 out to the range (hour and a half away from my house) only to realize that I accidentally left the red dot on and battery drained over night and I realized that only after I was at the range, and I forgot my spotting scope. GarrrrrrrrFunkleeeeeeeee!

So the next day 6 batteries in hand 2 spotting scope and a buddy, we headed back out to the range...

She sighted in like a dream, had grouping the size of a dime. Overall I am extremely happy with the purchase.

I had to grind my side plates....

I couldnt get them on for nothing....... I did a snake skin camo on the whole thing anyway so the grinds are visible....

Your right though, shoots like a dream. Its just a flutter in your hand.... I bought one for my kids and the camo 597 with the fibre optic sights... they went from the sights to the Holosight and their groups shrank in half...

I was cutting a quarter at 25 with a 25 round mag.

Lots of haters out there for this unit, but hey, I love mine.:D

Have a great one.

Gord.

Glad it worked out for ya. I did the same thing when I peeled 'er down to the barel an reciever for a much needed servicing. The trick is to leave those side plates loose and tighten them up evenly simutaneously.
And you should have an extra loose single fold sheet in your manual that explains the breakdown schematic and the few differences. if you are dying for it, I may be able to scan mine, and email it to you.
Happy plinking
