Today me & my buddy, we picked up one Ruger10/22, one Savage MK2, and
one Remington 597. The 10/22 is for somebody else who is ready to mod it
all out as soon as he gets his hand on it. The Savage for my buddy who is
a lefty, he was very happy that they actually made gun the wrong hand ..lol..
I got the Remington 597 to try out, I'm very amazed with this gun since
I already have the Marlin795, Savage 64,... etc.
Tested the 597 out of the box, open sight, made no adjustment, sticked in
10 rounds, at 10 yards, all bullets went in the 1" circle, took it out at 20 yards
did the same, took it out at 30 yards did the same thing ..... this gun is
going to be very boring .... lol..... but I like it .....
ejection port stays open after the last round just like the Marlin795 but
597 doesn't have a switch to manually close it like the 795.
magazine is much better on the 597 than the 795.
well so far so good, the 597 is definitely a good gun right out of the box.
Next to try it out at 50 yards with scope .....

My 597 has seen 1000's of rounds in 3 years and still shoots great, add a VQ trigger and it gets better, and a 30 round mag even better.
Its a great cheap little gun.

i like my 597 in 17 hmr it can reach out to 150 yards with fair accuracy i have bagged some nice animals with it to!

Man I'm might have to pick one of these up. I avoided them when they first came out after hearing about all the issues folks were having but lately I'm reading alot of favorable stuff (and the new hi cap mags are a plus).

597 YEAH!
I get to try that sucker out tonight.:dancingbanana: Where can you get this 30 round magazine for it? I had no clue they were available. Always thought that just the original 10 shot mags were around.

wow this gun is truely amazing, I benched it at 50 yards with a scope ....
holy cow it's just amazing, the grouping is about as good as my savage with
the target barrel .... using dyna point.

Nope, not at all true. I had the Laminate HB model, and without a word of a lie it would put a full mag into 1/2"@ 100 if you picked your day (no wind). Now, it was particular about ammo (shot CCI TNT's VERY well, but the hornady stuff opened up to an inch)
I actually sold it to someone here...maybe they'll chime in as well.

The 597 is the best value in a semi-auto IMO. Accurate, reliable, good ergonomics, bolt hold-open.....and a huge future in aftermarket parts starting up. (Eagle, VQ, etc)

I think if they A: Keep the performance of these guns where it is now,
and
B: Keep the price point where it is....they are going to take a HUGE bite out of the 10/22 market.

I picked up a 597 (in mossyoak camo) a few days ago. I was sure to check to see that it had the 3rd generation mag (the one with the 10 in a circle) and it did. That particular mag was still a piece of #### though. Was constantly not pushing up the next round. I tried several brand of ammo and the rounds were getting stuck inside and I had to poke them in order for them to come to the right position. I took the mag apart and cleaned it up and still no luck. It wouldn't even feed a single mag full without hiccup. So back to the store I go and they replace without hassle. This next one was also a 3rd generation mag but worked great. With this mag in it worked like a champ. Took it to the range and must have put about 350 rounds of various ammo (dynapoint, fed bulk, AE, Win super x, rem yellow jackets) without any ftf, misfires or fte. Getting those darn recoil springs in place is a chore.
