Remington 597

Just curious to see what everyone thinks about the rem 597. I've had one for a few years, didn't shoot it much but I have one, and the only reason I dont shoot it much is because I'm allways shooting stuff with my single shot 12 ga. :twisted:

What do you guys/gals think about the gun?

I love mine. So does my brother in law. Shoots great and doesn't jam. You need to use the bronze tipped shells/bullets though. I use the Federal Bulk packs.

Don't Like It

Purchased top of the line Target 597 - bull barrel, laminated stock and paid a fair buck. What a disapointment! For the 1st 4 months or so, it jammed once minimum per clip, took to the dealer, who claimed to have fixed the problem.
Finally had the firing pin, spring and housing sort of come apart inside the gun while at the range. Returned to dealer. Dealer returned to Remington. Remington refunded my money, in full.

Know quite a few other guys that seem to have the jamming problem with this firearm.

And that's all I've got to say about that.

Mine jammed alot when new, and I had a few double shots.
I switched to the Remington 22lr yellowjackets with very few
problems.

I feed mine Walmart and Crappy Tire bulk packs. It feeds everything, is accurate and does not jam. Great little rifle!
