Remington 700 & 2020 Optics

Hey fellow gun owners and enthusiasts..

I'm new to the forum, it was suggested to me from a couple good friends who have been here for a while. I have my application sent in, awaiting my PAL. I've wanted it for a long time, just never seemed to have the time!

The reason for this post though. I went to a gun range between christmas and new years to play with a few handguns, see what i liked and what fit my hands. While I was there, the sales department brought out this beautiful Remington 700 SPS Tactical AAC with the threaded muzzle. It's chambered for a 308 Win. The remarkable thing about this rifle, is the scope. It is factory mounted with a Remington 2020 optics scope, which is basically a video camera. It has wifi, range finder, inclination angles, barometric pressure, wind speed adjustments and much more. I got a chance to check it out, fell in love with it. It was on sale at the time, unfortunately 3 weeks later now and back to a regular price that will run near 5g. Has anyone had any experience with this rifle and optics system? I'm told the optics alone are near 5 grand. The remington website lists between 5500 and 5600 (they have 3 different packages, the 308, a 30-06, and a 223. I should have bought it then, but figured since i didn't have my license, I couldn't buy it.. guess there are ways around that for the time being. I'm just concerned with the dollar falling more and more, the price will just keep climbing.
Advice? Words of wisdom/cautionary tales??

Pretty much sums it up from everyone's standpoint. Just be happy you didn't have to go through the BS of trying to flog it to someone else once you figured it out for yourself.


Remington made a HUGE deal out of their 2020 line of rifles, their joint venture with TrackingPoint to bring a “precision guided firearm” to the lower end of the commercial market. They had an elaborate marketing campaign leading up to the announcement, a big SHOT Show launch and featured the guns in the local Cabelas shops (as we saw above). But in the end, it looks like no one actually bought the things. According to our sources, Remington has decided to eliminate the 2020 line after less than six months on the market. This marks the third major setback this year involving Remington and their firearms . . .

First came the disaster that is the Remington R51. Next came news that Big Green is recalling their Model 700 rifles over a trigger issue at a cost of tens of millions of dollars. Now, they are canning an entire line of very expensive rifles after less than six months of sales.

You could see the writing on the wall for this gun even before they went on sale. There wasn’t really anything special about the scope that the Burris Eliminator couldn’t do for $3,000 less. And since the Remington guns had none of the guided trigger awesomeness that really sets the TrackingPoint guns above and beyond the standard rifle it didn’t make a lot of sense to lay out $5,000 on a pale imitation.

Yet another reason Remington’s marketing and sales president was unceremoniously kicked to the curb?

Which line of rifles are they canning? The triggers were recalled and repaired were they not! That's why I heard. Everyone has recalls. Part of designing/building stuff.
