Its more of a response to the claim that a 16" barrel will be competitive or work as good as, or a longer barrel isnt needed, blah blah....that you so indicated! The laws of physics are the laws of physic...there is a saying I live by,"the bullshyt stops when the flag drops". Well yeah a short barrel will get you to 1000 yards but a longer barrel will get you there more accurately.

Its kinda like the movie Dumb and Dumber LOL, that little scooter got them to Aspen but was it the best choice?

There are several things you are missing..
1. A friend has acquired a 1/4 sec. and we are going to set up steel to 900 yards..
That's why I asked about load data for the short barreled .308 for LR..

You hunt at about the same distance as I do and the rifles I use mostly for hunting have from 16" to 20" barrels..

3. Now go up and read the OP post and the range distance he hunts and see if you can connect the dots..

I never said anything about shooting game at 1000 yds nor did I imply it..

The OP asked about 20 or 24 inch barrels for up to 400 yards and all a sudden buddy comes up with 16" and 1000 yards....thats what I was responding to and there are better choices than 16" for accuracy at 1000 yards.

To the OP, at 400 yards a 20" barrel will work fine.

I was clearly making the point that if you can get to 1000 accurately with a 16" .308 than 20" to 400 should relieve his concern and answer his question.

Stop trying to make something out of nothing.
