Remington 700 280

Wondering if someone could help me out. A local store has a Remington 700 in 280 rem with detachable mag, nice walnut stock, and matte finish. I didn't have time to take it down for a closer look today, but from the research that I've done this evening I'm thinking it may be a mountain model? I say this because it seemed to have a very slim barrel contour. Remington only lists a stainless/synthetic model on their site, so I'm thinking it may be left over. Anyone familiar with this model and what would be the average price for a new one? I'm only inquiring because the price seemed good and I've never owned a 280. Thanks.
 
There are several versions but you can't mistake the slim 22 inch barrel on each of them. They came in wood/blued, wood/ss, synthetic blued & synthetic/ss. They made different versions throughout the years. Some came with drop out mags and some had drop plate. About 5.5 to 6 pounds depending on the version.
 
Wood stocked long action mountain rifles typically weigh about 6lb 12 ounces, at least the several that I have had. The stocks are quite heavy so you can drop some weight with a quality synthetic.
 
I have the model before yours and one after, that rifle would be 10+ years old stock. A blowout deal retail would be 650ish I'd guess, u see them 7-800 used although a few ask more as the recent models are north of 1k.

See your from NL, in my google searches I found a couple of those out your way a couple years ago and price was real good, just not a DM fan, surprised they'd still be there.
 
Thanks for the info. I'm guessing the reason its still there is the caliber. Factory ammo would be very limited locally and not a lot of people in the area reload. I think Im going to drop by one day next week and have a better look.
 
Hope it's there when you do. .280 is in fashion lately and I bet guys are calling that store based on your thread you started.
