I have a Remington 700 action. I have a McMillan stock that is inletted for BDL hinged floor plate. If I wanted to use this action and stock with a factory Remington double stack detachable magazine, what do I have to do? Do the feed rails need to be milled out of the receiver? Is there going to be extensive inletting required (other than the little slot on each side for the mag release)? Anything else?

The 700 action has to be milled out to accept the Remington detachable magazine system. Once done you can not convert this back to the BDL system. The stock has to be altered to accept the Remington DM system. Look at the bottom of a Remington DM stock where the bottom metal fits... that is what you will have to do to the McMillan stock.

I have no idea and it may not work with the Magnum. You may have to shim under the Triggerguard assembly so the DM does not jam into the feed rails. In addition some models of the 700 may be deeper at the front of the floor plate than others. I discussed it with Irv at WGP before by the assembly. It is foe a 260 las mountain rifle for my wife by the way.

I have converted to the factory DM without altering the rails and it works fine.

My experience aswell (short action, non magnum). But I would use a HS Precision unit to avoid cutting my McMillan, and it's a nicer unit than the factory job - although much more expensive.

I acquired a DM stock and magazine unit, and had to mill my receiver to get everything to fit together.

I'd like to go the HS precision route but at $600+ I'm not sure I can. Im sure that it is without a doubt the best drop in system. I'm trying to build a "robust light" hunting rifle so I'd like the magazine to be flush with the stock line or close to it. Might try the kwik klip route. Does anybody have any actual experience with these?

I have used Kwik-Klips on both my long action 700 and my short action 700. They are excellent for hunting not so much for Precision Rifles.

Looked at a 5 shot Kwik Klip unit recently. Didn't look bad. About $175 with one magazine. No experience using one.

Put together a 300 win mag for a buddy , Remington bareled action , wildcat stock , Kwik clip , It has been his go to gun for the last 10 years , everything from deep bush moose to Sheep. The kwick clip irattles a bit when unloaded but goes away when there are shells in it. But he says it has never failed to feed or jammed .

Good to hear actual review. Lots of mixed reviews on the Kwik Klip on the internet, but for the price difference I think I'll try it out before jumping into receiver alterations and/or much more expensive bottom metal options. I'm not opposed to spending money to have better equipment, but I'm trying to keep this build below $3.5k to appease the wife.

The kwic Klip mags are pretty flush might have to get a finger nail under to get out or just get 10 round mag
