Remington 700 bolt stiff

Bolt lift is smooth as can be. No shell in it same thing opening and closing is smooth. Once round is in it is very very hard to close.

A few things it could be...

The headspace could be slightly less than minimum spec or the factory shells could be made slightly more than maximum spec. I have seen both.

A third possibility is the extractor has a sharp edge which is engaging a flat on the back of the brass. This is easily fixed by a competent smith.
Can you feel the extractor engage the case and then it gets hard to close, or does the hard to close occur before the extractor slips over the rim?

Paint an entire loaded round with a sharpie and then chamber it. Then take it out. You'll KNOW where it's making contact instead of guessing that way......

I'll bet on a bad extractor. A quick check is to fit the cartridge into the bolt face with the rim behind the extractor so it doesn't have to jump it. If the extractor is the trouble it'll slip in slicker than a buttered snatch.

Never got to measuring the cases yet but here are 2 pictures of what the rim of the shell looks like after loading and ejecting a spent shell a few times. As you can see there are some marks on one spot and you can even see a splinter of brass that was pulled off.

I had the same issue with the 300 winmag I bought last year. Brass would shave off and get caught under the extractor on the bolt face and after chambering a few rounds the bolt would not close. Had to clean the shavings out occasionally which would allow it to work again. After shooting a few hundred rounds it seems to have broken itself in and I no longer have that issue. I never had as serious a gouging issue on the rims as you appear to have by your picture.

Gun has been sent off to Gravel Agency in Quebec for warranty work. Was told shouldnt take more then 2-3 weeks to have rifle fixed an returned, lets hope thats true. Will post update of what was wrong and what they did once I get it back.

So did you determine if it was 'hitting' on the extractor as I described? Can you feel the extractor engage the case and then it gets hard to close, or does the hard to close occur before the extractor slips over the rim?
