Remington 700 follower question

Is the follower plate different for different calibers in the internal magazine? .308 to .223.

Yep. A .223 follower should be different than a .308 follower. Follower springs are different too.
Gunparts shows two different .223 followers and two .308 followers. One's a 'police', likely just the finish. The other's just a short action follower. Same price.

If that doesn't work, I'd imagine giving ATRS a call might work. I know they do quite a bit of 700 work, so they might have some spare parts available or able to be ordered.
