Remington 700 - "J-Lock" - please explain

Ok so I have searched and googled but no answer.
So what is the issue and why do sellers advertise - NO J LOCK etc

For a few years Remington made rifles and shotguns with an integral lock, shaped like a J. On shotguns, its on the safety, on rifles its on the bolt shroud.

Here is a firing pin assembly with a J lock...

Here is an aftermarket Lightweight pin assembly, no J lock...

If you have one of those M-700s with the J-lock, hang onto it, they are highly desired as 'collectors' rifles!

It made the gun in-operable when it was locked. It would lock the safety on, on the shotguns. On the rifles, it would lock the firing pin. Not only that , but lock at the piece of crap spring on it...

The J-lock de-values a firearm, which is why guys will say that in their post. Nobody wants it.

i dont think anyone likes the 'feature' - which is why it was phased out

If you own and carry a Jlock model in the field, be sure to carry the green key with you, as the common practical joke is to lock the other guy's rifle before it leaves the truck. Or buy an aftermarket bolt shroud.

My Remington 870 has a Jlock on the safety in the trigger guard. I have never used it and I don't even know where the key is.

When did Remington stop putting the Jlock on the 870's?

^they got a lot of negative press. people were specifically looking for J-lock-less rifles. they likely saw a dip in sales.
