Hi,am looking some information for a Remington 700 Milspec 5R 308 cal,range 100m to 300m shooting range.
how to choose the right scope and mount for this rifle.
Objective not touching the barrel?good eye releif, the perfect mag for shooting range.
got few exemple;

-LEUPOLD VX3 6.5-20 X 50MM---MK4 MOUNT AND RING
-ZEISS CONQUEST 4.5-14 X 50MM

Its hard to make the right choice whit so many good scope, and mount

The Zeiss has constant eye relief over the Leupold. You can get it in a 6.5 to 20 also.IMo the Zeiss has better glass than the Leupold.Overall quality and durability is very close. The 4.5 - 14 will be plenty out to 300m, #43 Mil-dot reticle has a very nice fine cross hair not to obscure the target.

On my 700 I currently have MED Burris signature rings with inserts, these are awesome. The inserts don't mark the scope and allow for elevation/windage adjustment with offset inserts. Also they take misalignment issue out of the equation.

I use a 1 piece Warne Picatinny style steel base.

The barrel is Rem Varmint contour on this rifle and am still able to fit my scope covers on it.

Also, a slightly more economical option with great quality is Sightron, Jerry at Mystic Precision, one of our sponsors has them and he is very knowledgeable.

Still is a good idea to look through as many as you can, see what works best for ya!!

I have Remington 700 Milspec in .308Win, and am going to put a scope which will reach to 1000yr. I still am waiting for rail and rings but when that comes, my Sightron SIII goes on top of it.
If you want to shoot only up to 300m, then you don't need anything very 'big' and expensive. You can consider Elite4200 series or Zeiss Conquest.
I have both and give the notch to Zeiss, better clarity and reticle is etched nicely.
Do not forget to put some nice rings and bases and if someone can lap the rings for you, will be great.

Ha! 300 with a 5R ? Just wait man, with that gun 300 will feel like a wast of ammo. Get a scope that will let you shoot out to 1000y now to save your money in the future.

I have a 5R 308 as well that I use for long range. When it comes to glass, weather your range is 300y or 1000+ there are some things you want as a must and some things you need to make a choice on now rather than later.

Must features - It must feel right. The glass must be very clear on the highest zoom. Must have External parallax adjustment, you are cheaping your self out if you go with out it. The scope must track properly. This takes more research than anything. Some scopes have a bad rep ,,, stay away from them. Sightron has this Exact Track system in there scopes. Very neat. Worth looking up. A lifetime warranty also goes along way.

You must decide how you want to use ur scope. - You can adjust range by Turrets or mildots. IF you plan to use center crosshairs all the time than go with a scope with good target turrets. Some resistance and an audible click is handy. Look at the scopes Max MOA adj, a good chunk is a good chunk. When it comes to reticule go with very thin cross hairs. Mil dots are useless.

- If your using mil dots. Get a fixed zoom scope (10x is best). most #1 important thing. Find one with .5 mil hesh marks or better. I highly recommend IOR with the mp-8 reticule because it gives you 10 mils of elevation. One good thing about the fixed zoom scopes is they are built very durable.

Personally I use a Sightron SIII 10x42 fixed with MMD. With my center crosshair at 600y im good out to 900y with out adjusting the turret. The Leupold mark 4 M1 10x with TMR is a great scope. I dont find the glass much better but it offers a larger field of view. Its nice but not worth the extra $1000 over the sightron. IOR Valdada has a 10x42 as well with the mp-8. They are about $500 cheaper than the Leupold as well and worth every penny. Kind of hard to find in Canada but peter dobson @ www.hirschprecision.com might be able to get you one.

If 300m is honestly the max your gona shoot..... even a 3x9x40 bushnell will do the trick for you. Ill give you one for $120 with rings if you want. pm me.

I think exposed turrets came in line for 2011 model year if I am not mistaken. I am myself debating 8-32x56 with 2-MOA reticle and new stiffer turrets. I like the idea of 70MOA elevation in 32x
