Remington 700 oversized recoil lug

In answer to your question, NO. Adding an oversized recoil lug does nothing. If there was some improvement ie. accuracy factory rifles would be made that way.
It is simply part of the custom work offered, like customizing your vehicle, new rims for looks.
As mentioned above there would be head space issues to deal with as well as stock work.
Enjoy

There may be some benefit to a thicker lug but it would be difficult to demonstrate. Probably the primary advantage of the aftermarket lugs is that they may be more precisely made. Again, the advantages are difficult to proove and I would say they are non-existent if the receiver is not also precisely trued. It is certain that the factory lug has sufficient area to transfer recoil to the stock

Large recoil lugs are made because someone thinks they need them...

The huge aftermarket lugs are ridiculous. They also create measuring problems for the gunsmith (his problem) due to a one inch depth mic no longer long enough.

I seriously doubt you will ever be able to demonstrate any accuracy gain or benefit.

I do however like the aftermarket lugs that are the same diameter as the action and tapering down... The Holland lug is the largest I like, too bad it isn't even thinner.
