So my Remington 700 Tactical is still in its factory Hogue stock and its time for a upgrade. I was thinking about going to a factory HS precision stock from a Remington 700 Police, if I can find one for a good price. Will this be worth the money to upgrade to? I would assume so, but I thought its best to check with the experts first.

Thanks

yes it would be an upgrade, but it still a facorty stock with , in comparison, poor ergonomics as to whats out there, and no adjustments, :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: you not, on my 1st precision rifle(700 5r) my groups with hand loads went from 3/4moa to damn near close to 1/2moa just by swapping from the factory HS to an A5 as i was able to get behind the rifle in a comfortable natural position

change the barrel if you want to increase the accuracy/precision potential of the gun, stocks don't change much unless the one one it now doesn't fit you properly.

For the same money, go to Canadian Precision and have them blueprint the action, bed the action and work the trigger. You'll get more accuracy for your buck... YMMV

Don't spend the $ on blueprining unless your getting a new barrel spun on at the same time as they will have to redo all the head spacing, barrel tennon and your gonna have to repay that down the road when you rebarrel

Yeah Im not a huge fan of the factory Hogue stock on my rifle at the moment. What would be a good ball park price to pay for a take off HS stock from a 700 Police?

If you don't like it then that could be reason enough to change it. Watch the EE though, there are several WTB threads up right now so you will have some competition when it comes to price. I wouldn't bother with a take off myself if it approached the cost of a new aftermarket B&C or Choate.

I sold a HS Precision off a Police awhile back for $300 with an adjustable cheek-piece added. It didn't last long at that price.

If you want an upgrade, skip the take-offs, B&Cs and similar and go straight to the McMillan. They aren't that much more, esp if you order from 24 hour campfire. You also get to specify your LOP if that's an issue. Just swapping out a pad on a Police stock can use up $100 in a hurry, which cuts into any saveings you might have made.
