Good day,

I've got a prefit remage barrel coming in for my short action Remington 700. What's the best way to align the recoil lug with the receiver? I can't find any recoil lug alignment tools available in Canada. Has anyone done this with only bubble levels?

Thanks for the help guys, I decided to drop $150 on Amazon for the wheeler action wrench #2 that has the lug alignment tool built in. This new barrel became quite expensive with all the tools required...

You can always use a level to get a lug indexed... but a lot easier with an indexing tool. I have one for factory 700 lugs and one for the Holland lug...

Install the lug on the tenon of your take off barrel and turn it back into the receiver, just tight enough so that it can align with the recoil lug slot, when it's back in the stock.

Then put it back into your stock and tighten up the screws.

This will align the recoil lug with the receiver/stock inlet.

There are all sorts of ways to mark the recoil lug/receiver so that you can mate up the marks, when the new barrel is installed.

I have only run into ''one'' Remington receiver that had the recoil lug "pinned" to it and that was done by the smith that replaced the barrel. Nice touch.
