I fer one , wouldn't do a rim-job on a 700.
The ol' Rem 788 however was ideally suited for rimmed rounds that would fit the action and or magazine.
Remington made 2 lengths of actions for these back in the day, one was an extra short action in .44 magnum & the other was in .30-30 Win. These particular
actions had rotating bolt heads & hook extractors along with the rear locking, 9 lug setup as the other 788's. These 788's were easily the most accurate bolt action,
factory made rifles in .44 mag & 30-30 back then. (They still are fer me)
Folks that knew would re-barrel the 30-30 actions to 35-30 and use 'em with fine results in silhouette matches. Folks that figure that rimmed cartridges ain't
accurate just need to get out more often with 'em. Look at what Russia & Finland have achieved over the years with the old 7.62x54 cartridge as an example.
Those folks have used that case to make up rounds in bores from 22 to 9.3 with Olympic success many times over with Mosin Nagant actioned rifles chambered
in 6.5x54R.
A well developed rimmed cartridge gives up nothing in terms of accuracy for target or hunting rifles built to use 'em.
