I have an R 700 Varmint with the floorplate, and it's very fussy holding any type of ammo.
I've tried a couple different brands and types, and still have the same issues. It doesn't hold the ammo properly which causes it to rock up and down inside the mag and makes the bolt skip right over the top of the bullet and jam up when I'm trying to cycle.

Seems like a common issue on Youtube for these rifles, but I can't find anything on the forum. Anybody have the same issues?

I have the same rifle and it has the issue , you have to be real carful how the rounds are loaded in to the magazine and when you are working the bolt after a shot you have to be firm and smooth , make sure the follower is in place properly after droping the floor plate and load rounds so the are to the rear of the mag , when the mag is full push down a few times to make sure they are stacked properly

It's a .308 Win.

I seat them as far back as possible and shove them straight down so they're perfectly lined up, and they still tend to rock back and forth half the time. Once I get the first round out of the way and the follower starts pushing them, they seem to cycle nicely.

I have the exact same problem. What I did was put some empty casings in the mag and left it in the safe for a week to break in the spring. Seems to work better now

Thanks mister308, I'll try that out. If the spring is the issue, I'll look at soldering some light springs in the front and back of the mag too to keep the follower straight.
