Remington 700 sps varmint

I used one for precision rifle for a few years, good starter rig for sure. I'm not that happy with the Tupperware stock but there are lots of options out there for you to choose from.
I am a fan of the 308 caliber, sure there are better calibers out there but if you learn to read the wind and shoot that caliber at distance you will be surprised what you can do with it.
Put on some good glass, work up a hand load and replace the stock when your ready.

Stock is the weak point for sure. But you can learn to bed your own rifle and get some practice with that stock so you have some experience when you bed a more expensive stock.

I've got one in .223. Nice gun but lousy stock. I bought a 700 VLS take off stock and it's GTG. HS Precision take off stocks come up fairly regularly in the EE. Or if you want something else the 700 short action is extremely common so other options are pretty easy
