i want to upgrade the trigger on my r700 sps. from what ive seen there are several different types of r700s out there. bdl adl, who knows what else. mines an sps with a hinged floor plate for the bullets to drop out of. its a newer r700 with the x mark pro trigger but i want something thats a little lighter on the pull. so will i need to bring it to a gun smith for the trigger to get installed or can i do it myself? also can someone confirm what r700 i have so i dont order the wrong part please.

let me know if these are enough or if i need to get you guys a shot of the bottom aswell. i just dont want to guess at what it is and order the wrong part and be out a couple hundred bucks.

please dont mind the mess in the pictures, i took them a week or so back and we just bought a new place and are in the process of packing so stuff is everywhere.

also is there anything i can do to the x mark pro trigger to make it lighter? they claim it can be turned down to 1.5 pounds but who knows how accurate that is. or maybe do some at home polishing of some kind to improve on it? thanks

did some more reading through here on different triggers and someone had mentioned rifle basix, id like something thats about 5-8 ounce pull, ive shot one rifle like that and it was an absolute treat to shoot. so i dug up a website that carries their products, ill try to find a local vendor on here that sells them, but im curious which model trigger id need from this list for my remy

I installed a Jewell HVR trigger from Mystic Precision in about 15 minutes on my Remington 700.

It's simply outstanding and can be ajusted for 1.5oz up to 3.5lbs by choosing 1 of 3 springs and they setting desired trigger weight.

Currently my rifle is set at 1lbs and I plan on getting used to it before trying to lower it.
At 1lbs my rifle's is simply 10x better than X-Mark Pro set a 2lbs!

was there any cutting or drilling to install that trigger?

im glad to hear that such a huge improvement can be seen over that crappy x mark trigger. as nice as its made out to be once you try something thats quality it must just blow this one away. did you ever measure the x mark to see what it really sits at weight wise at its lowest setting? does it actually go to a true 1.5 pounds of pull?

There is not much involved to changing a trigger. All you need is a small hammer and a small pin punch to drive the two pins out. That is it. Just make sure that you hang on to the bolt release spring so it does not bugger off on you.

To answer your original question, there is not much difference between the 700 actions. BDL, CDL, XCR, SPS...... all measure up the same. Some have jeweled bolts, better triggers and such but they are mostly the same.

I installed a jewel on my sps. Installation was simple on the receiver however i was required to do a little dremel work on the sps stock as the jewel is a little thicker then the x-mark.

good to hear, these guys claim the trigger is a direct drop in without any grinding or shaving like with some of the aftermarket triggers out there. see how it goes when it arrives. from the videos ive seen on youtube its just a matter of popping out a couple pins and replacing the trigger and thats it. from the looks of it this kit also comes with a new safety, im assuming the old safety wont fit on the new trigger, should be interesting to see how many hours a 20 minute install takes me :D

maybe someone can quickly look at this and just clear this up for me.

from my understanding when the folks at remington center punched the receiver it deformed that hole just a little and it needs a 1/8th drill bit put through it to make it round again right?

Remington staked the holes with a center punch to prevent the pins from moving under recoil. I left them alone. The pins slide in by hand and then need a few little taps to place them all the way which is how it should be. If you drill them out there will be nothing holding the pins and if they move they might jam up the bolt release or slide out the other way and get caught in your stock the next time you try to remove it.

makes perfect sense, the videos i saw shows them being hammer out and back in again. thanks for clearing that up for me, i wont bother drilled the holes dont want to run into issues. should i re use the old pins or put in the new ones? the videos i saw show the one pin holding together something with a spring on it so it doesnt get punched out all the way
