Hey fellow gun nutz. I have never shot or handle a Remington before and looking
at getting one in the varmint laminated stock model. Just wondering how they shoot
and handle. Calibre would be .243. As well what would be your first choice in aftermarket
upgrades to first perform on a factory gun.
 
The Rem 700 is the rifle most others are compared to. Try one on for size first. Due to frivolous US law suits, you will still have to get a trigger job done.
In .243, it'll prefer heavy bullets(85 plus grains), due to the 1 in 9.125" rifling twist. Nearly all commercial hunting rifles are rifled for deer sized game. (S'ok. The game won't care.) That'd be up to deer/black bear/antelope.
No varmint bullets for deer sized game either. Deer sized game bullets do astounding things to varmints. Varmint bullets are made to expand rapidly upon impact. Deer bullets expand while penetrating.
If you aren't reloading, you will be eventually, but in the mean time, you'll have to try a box of as many brands and bullet weights as you can to find the ammo your new rifle shoots best.

I have the exact same rifle. It actually prefers lighter bullets. It will just barely stabilize a 85 gr bullet, but it won't stabilize a 95 gr bullet at 100 yards. I've tried many different powders to stabilize those 95 gr Sierra's and it just won't do it. It will stabilize the 85 gr Sierra using H-4350.
 
Well coyotes are what I'm wanting to use it for but if it more than likely wont
stabilize the lighter bullets maybe i will have to pick a different calibre. I already
reload for my deer rifle so no factory bullets for it. I was told by a friend that
Remington's are picky about bullets what seems to work for them.

Your rifle may not "shoot" the 95 grain bullet well, but it sure as he** will easily "stabilize" any bullet up to 105 grain hunting bullets.
I have even seen a factory Remington VLS rifle that shot the 105 VLD well, and technically, it should not.
What you have is a rifle preference, not a lack of stabilization.
