Savage. I've seen many VTR's and they are poor quality. I've seen rust in and on barrels, stripped sight mount screws, and metal chips in the action from machining. The VTR has a poor quality finish. It has been sand blasted then caustic blued. Once the high spots on the bolt wear down with use and or rust from the tiny pits trapping water when used a field, the already sloppy bolt will get even sloppier. Plus the rough 'mat finish' bolt feels like a stick being poked into a bucket of gravel when cycled. The compansator on the muzzle will also amplify the sound the gun makes to an irritating if not deafening level. And I'm not sure but don't the VTR's have the same safety failure issue?
I can not attest to the qualities of the Savage but these are my findings with the Remington.
Did I mention that I own 3 Remingtons and not a single Savage?
