So at first I thought about doing up a dedicated yote/varmint rifle, but the idea of a versatile yote/deer rifle is appealing. I'm in the air though, I have tried on both the savage 11 series and the 700 vtr. So for those that have handled them pros and cons for each apart from weight issues. Assume the same glass on both.

Savage.

I've not owned the VTR but had trigger and accuracy issues with my 700 (2-3" at 100m out of the box). Switched to savage and they're all I shoot now. The accu trigger is amazing and if you get the accu stock, it will be crazy accurate (my 308 puts 5 under 1/2" at 100m out of the box).

My .02

OK let's see now....your Savage 308 once put 5 shots under ½" at 100, or will consistently do that?
I want to see 5 consecutive groups such as you claim, then, possibly, I'm a believer.
To those of us who shoot a lot, your claim for a factory rifle is ridiculous, whether Remington or Savage.
Eagleye.

I've never had an innacurate Savage, but all the Rems I own shoot well too.

The thing I don't like on the VTR is the built in muzzle brake - when you consider the brake, you're now talking a pretty darn short barrelled .243, which is pretty overbore in the first place. And that built in brake is going to increase noise on the shot too - not a good thing for a rifle you want to mostly hunt with. Personally I'd almost always chose more recoil over more noise when hunting, particularly with a wee little .243.

I would have to go Savage 11 in this situation.
