A retailer in my area has just brought in a couple of VTR's in .308, and I was just curious if anyone has any experience with this rifle, such as the unusual barrel shape, or the built in compensator
My brother has one. I have a 700P in .308 and it has less kick than his .308 VTR but its more to do with the weight of the 700P than anything ells. Pretty nice looking rifle. Its basically a Remington 700 with a strange looking barrel.
I think you will have a hard time finding triangular bullets
Had one, did not like it at all, save the money pick up an SPS-Varmint, and add bedded stock to it, it will be a much nicer setup for almost the same money.
I don't know about the 223 model but I have a 308 model and if I put in winchester power point 180 grain I can get 1-1 1/2" groups @ 200m free hand on the brench. People ether love it or hate it. All they have to rember that this rifle is made for hunter's not target shooters. Hence why they shaved of most of the barrel and have a super light stock plus a mussle flash and the XCS coating system for extreme abuse in all weather conditions. All these idea's are for weight control and for quick accurate follow up shots and longevity of use. Also the high rate of twist (i.e. the 1 in 12 for the 308 cal) allows us hunters to use soft points and heavier bullets for best preformance. The only thing I recomend doing is a trigger job that anyone can do it on the X-Pro trigger system. Just check google for the anwers and happy hunting.
P.S. Cabelas.ca has them for $700 now but I got mine for $650.
