Any one tried this model in .308?
Looking for a target rifle for distances up to 300m.
Any other rec. for something in the same price range?
Any ideas would be greatly appr.

This is not a precision rifle, it is a sporting rifle with a weird barrel. If you want close to true precision accuracy and are using factory ammo, go with the Savage F/TR rifle.

I have one in .308. I love it. Two inch groups at 200m with mil surp ammo is no joke. Awesome groups with factory ammo at 100m. I plan on hunting with it this fall.

Exactly. It is a terrific sporting rifle and delivers terrific sporting accuracy. One need not spend a fortune to find a rifle that will perform well as a sporting rifle, but .75- 1.5 MOA is standard factory accuracy.

To be successful in actual precision shooting matches (We're hanging out in the precision rifle forum after all) , you need to be able to count on quarter minute -or better - accuracy. It is also very difficult to become a true precision shooter and to learn how to get better when the tools and results have such poor "tolerances". (was that me or the rifle that made that shot land a foot left at 600M?)

Remington VTR - a tacky looking gun with a stump for a trigger

:D
I have a VTR in .308 Win.

I shot it a few times but I don't know what it can really do because the asshats at Remington didn't put a fully adjustable trigger on the gun and they locked out the stock trigger so that it can't be adjusted below 2 # even with surgery.

I'm having a fully adjustable Timney trigger put in mine because I like a light trigger ( 1 - 1.5 #).

When I get it back I'll see whether any of those in catalog "hit man tacky" looks translate into on target paper accuracy.
