Remington 700MLS problem

I have a 700ML and the problem that I have is when you fire it there is a slight delay between the 209 primer firing and the main charge firing. It actually goes bang bang.Does anyone else have this problem? I use Rem 209ML primers and 2-50/50 777 powder pellets with powerbelt bullets.
 
Check to see if there is crud in the plug hole. Pop a few caps before loading next time...to clear crud.
And if that doesn't work try a full power 209 primer. Have you tried loose powder...does it hang-fire?
Maybe you contaminated the pellets with oil from your hands?:confused:
 
We (3) all shoot Remington 700ml's using 209's, we all tried T7 and we all got hang fires. We all went back to pyro pellets and we are all happy again? Sometimes I have carried my gun for 4-5 days without firing it off and it has never failed me even after bringing it into a warm house each day which is a no no. At the range I have shot 10-15 shot in a row without cleaning it and still have a good group at 100 yards. This year I cleaned it after every two shots and I did not have a crud ring? I shot four deer and one yote with the longest shot over 100 paces at the running yote. I shoot the 303gr Remington sabots with two 50 gr pyro pellets and use a CCI209M primer.
 
I constantly clean the fire hole in the plug of all my In lines, primer residue can plug them up quickly and cause hang fires. I use a two appropriate sized drill bits to get the job done.

All 209 in-lines are designed to shoot pellets and to gain the advantages they offer over loose powder. While loose powder does ignite more easily it is not the solution to the problem. There are many reasons to use loose but because an in-line won't go bang with pellets isn't one of them. I'd find the root of the problem and then decide what powder is best. Using loose powder in this case is a bandaid solution at best for a major hemorage.

I'd start with the breech plug and make certain all the spark is reaching the powder.....

I have a Remington 209 nipple in the original breach plug is that what you use or do you have the Cabelas style nipple in your guns?
 
Three of us tried the T7 and got the delay. I was at the gun shop where we bought the 700ml and we were not alone with T7 hang fire in a Remington 700ML. None of us us T7 now, we all went back to Pyro 50gr pellets. This years ML season we shot 7 deer and one yote, we missed at least 6-8 shots with no hang fire. My Pyro pellets are 4-5 years old and I have never had a problem with Pyro. One of our group sold his Remington because of cleaning time, four of us bought them and now only three of us use them. One of the three sold his also and bought an Encore but found that it did not group as well as the 700 so he sold the Encore and bought his 700 back from his friend? They are a bit harder to clean and not made anymore but for 6 days a year it shoots as good if not better than the top of the line ML's. Our grouping got better using the CCI 209Mag primers. I have also used loose pyro with no hang fire on the range but not enough in the field to test it under all hunting conditions.

Try some Federal 209A primers......they are hotter than most and as T7 does require a bit of extra spark.....often the ticket.

That's not uncommon and it's even worse with powder like Blackhorn 209. There was a myth going around for a while that too hot of primers actually pushed the bullet off the powder column, causing inaccuracy and there was this move to colder 209 primers and ever .32 conversion kits. Now, shooters are paying the price with these new powders that require more spark to ignite. The Federal 209A is the one primer that has always consistently made bp substitutes go bang and it still does. Pyrodex ignites quite easily and even #11 caps will make pellets go bang most of the time but it seems all of the bp substitutes that have followed are more difficult to ignite........
 
Buckhunter it is not recommended by Remington to use the weather guard if you use 209 primers? Just in case you are using it with 209's.
 
Interesting comments about the 777, I was using it in my grandfathers old gun, and never had any problems getting it to ignite with just a #11 cap. Probably 50 shots or more, never cleaned it once between shots either. I can't imagine a 209, any 209, would not ignite the stuff.
