Saw that and the first thing to come into my head was tacticool now where did I put that picture lol. Didnt mean to hijack the thread.

I understand what you did and to me makes sense if thats what allows you to keep on target the best. Personally dont use bolt guns as an offhand gun would rather a semi where follow up shots are easier (mostly use bolt guns in prone or in a tree stand). Just my two cents though.

Really... your first post ever is this?
Any constructive feedback?

Haha, nice come back :) You're gonna draw a lot of heat from the bolt gun guys around here, especially the fudds, but whatever works for you man.

Welcome to CGN quartebore, not the best way to introduce yourself though, haha!

Hey quarterbore i for one think thats an awesome first post. as to the op if it works fir you then its good to.go.

Did it ever! Everyone's a critic.
The intent is not 'tacti-cool'... although the pic did make me smile... guess I need a bayonet, laser and light now... wait NO!

Shooting 'Off hand' I'm better able to pull the stock rear and maintain firmer grip during recoil.
- It is only 308 but pretty light. Previously I would often loose POI due to muzzle flip.
- I use this rig in the wet quite a bit. The forestock gets slick... guess texturing would have been another option
- Also gave that bit extra to bring my elbow firmly into my ribs... ie 'stack the bones'

Makes for a VERY comfortable 'low port' carry

I know this will open up the floor to more 'constructive' feedback but I actually have AFG2s on my shotguns and semis as well.
- Goal is constant feel to aid muscle memory.
- Also GREAT for those of us who destroyed their wrists in a past life!

Agree 'It's not something you see every day' but not unheard of... crazier examples below.

Guess it's easy to look at a picture and mock it based on shared perceptions of folks 'intent'. IMO this has practical merit... AND most importantly it has helped my 'off hand' shot. If we ever cross paths at the range I'll let you give it a swing... may be pleasantly surprised.

Would be very interested to hear opinions IRT points on grip, lateral stability, wrist agronomics, or shooting position.
Any thoughts on keeping a consistent 'feel' over all platforms?
Think I get the points on aesthetics :nest:

I see what you're trying to do and to be honest I applaud the effort. I myself went and stuck a back-up red dot on my bolt gun for ####s and giggles because I could and I wasn't gonna let anyone tell me that I couldn't however til this day I still haven't fired a single round aiming with it (also it does look effing bad ass in my opinion). I do have a problem with the two examples you gave lol oh man too good; first and foremost a 10/22 and a Mosin? - this is pretty much comparing a beater or a civic to a freakin' beemer and saying they're the same thing (they are not and yes I loves me some good ole car analogies). What you've done is a couple of things to this rifle:

1. Ruined the aesthetics - this one is purely looks and you shouldn't care how it looks and neither should anyone else, if it serves a purpose then it's justified.
2. Ruined the stock - again this really shouldn't matter that much because unless I am mistaken a 700P just comes with some cheap hogue overmold anyways.
3. Most important is potentially ruined the accuracy of this rifle... This is the only thing that should matter, shoot it off a bench, shoot it off a bipod in the prone position or even shoot it off hand BUT without the AFG. You can probably correct me if I am wrong but if you notice the groups opening up it may be because if you have drilled into that stock you probably have something on the inside of the stock touching the barrel and messing with it's harmonics and natural resting point; however even if you didn't drill into the stock and just glued that that thing on there, then you could still be adding pressure to the bottom of the barrel and again messing with the harmonics.

Again I do wanna say that I do applaud what you did, it takes courage to do something different and that is definately what you did here. I hope it works well for you man and maybe to squash all of the nay sayers I would say go out and shoot it and post groups or even better get a video - nothing works better than seeing is believing.

Why do you assume he's ruined the stock and hurt it's accuracy? A couple more holes in the bottom of the stock doesn't ruin it in my mind. As for accuracy how do you know that he's got something touching the barrel and harming the barrel harmonics? It wouldn't be rocket surgery to mount that grip using hardware and still keep it clear of the barrel. I'm not saying either is the case, just that it would be easily accomplished without ruining anything.

OP, I'm all for better shooting at the cost of aesthetics and the opinions of others.

My post is in reply to the one above it , about the bayonet being capable of only slicing (seriously who critiques the tactical effectiveness of a meme? ). Had absolutely nothing to do with your rifle , it's your rifle and I can care less what you stick on it. Constructive feedback..... Willybuch is mistaken it's H.S. who makes the stock.
