Hi Fellas,

I've decided to get into some long range tactical type shooting and have decided on getting a Remington 700P in .308. I'm just wondering how people like them? Also, not sure about getting the regular model or the LTR model. Any input would be appreciated.

Lots of people have 'em. They're well liked. The search function is your best friend here. There's countless threads on this very subject.

700P vs 700 LTR. It's all going to boil down to how well you like the stock of either rifle and how much you truly need a 26" long barrel over a 20".

I have both and I can tell you hands down that my personal preference is for the LTR. It's a great handling rifle and I prefer the LTR's stock over the 700P's. I find the palm swell on the 700P to be a pain in the ass and not very comfortable at all.

I like the LTR enough that I bought a take off stock for a future build. Cartridges under consideration will be .300 Whisper, .338 Whisper, .358 Winchester or .458 SOCOM with the shortest barrel I can legally get away with and still be non-restricted. Odds on favorite is the .358 Winchester shooting nothing but cast lead or jacketed pistol bullets.

I don't want to sway you from your decision but there is a NIB Remington 700 R5 in the EE for 1175 and that is the same or slightly less than I see most Police models. I haven't heard too many people getting a bad shooter with either model but I prefer stainless. YMMV
