Any ideas who would be best to work on my old 722. I have acquired a proper extractor as the original is broken as is typical. Also would like a total trigger swap. The original was cleaned and adjusted by someone recommended from here several years ago but it’s still defective and will occasionally fire when I close the action. This rifle is a tack driver and has sentimental value but I am not gonna pass it down to my son until the problem is properly fixed. Thanks

The extractor you have acquired is for a 722? M700 extractors aren't the same.
A 700 trigger group is a direct installation, but the safety is different and stock alterations will be needed.

Yes I understand that. I found a 722 extractor a few years back and have been holding onto it. The rifle only seems to extract live rounds but upon firing, it fails. I do realize there will have to be some stock alterations in order to make a 700 trigger assembly work but that's ok.

The gunsmith I recommend is Jason Spencer at Gunco in Nepean.
You are fortunate to have a NOS 722 extractor. Rarer than hen's teeth. It might be possible to tweak the existing extractor. Might even be accumulated fouling in its recess that is causing the problem.

Just make sure that the rim of the extractor counterbore is intact. They can get broken out when a case is tough to extract. Being as the missing piece is the size of a very conservative nail clipping, it's easy to overlook it's absence.
Without it the extractor may function in the manner you have described.

The sear engagement is not correct and/or the return spring pressure is to little. That is a fairly easy adjustment to correct and no stock work required.

I also highly recommend Jason at Gunco. He does excellent work and turns around pretty quick.
