Hello:

Are these guns fairly common in Canada? (Remington 7600 Police - .308 Wim - 16.5" Barrel - Peep Sight) How accurate are they?

I think they would make a great bush gun for the thick stuff. Any idea of anyone who has this gun in stock? Thanks in advance for your time.

I have had one for years. I bought it from Bashaw Sports for about $850. I have used it mainly as a quad gun and of course in my pick-up. I average about 3 inches at a 100 yds. with the sights provided. Unfortunately due to my eyes this gun will be scoped in the next couple of weeks. I don't really think this rifle offers much over the carbine that one can usually get for much less money. I tend to agree it is very loud when you are shooting it. I have not seen one for sale for some time. I think their popularity is on the wane because of the price. They make a great bush gun though. Best of luck in your search. If I see one I'll let you know.

Looks interesting, but I am not a fan generally of pumps. That said, it would be a great brush gun.
It would be a good bush gun, but a longer bbl works better.

I've had them in 22", 20" (cut short) and 18.5". The best one for handling, balance and overall was the 20".

If it was going to be used strictly as a bush gun anyway, you could load your ammo with 200 or 220 gr bullets and the lighter powder charge should mitigate the blast a little. Not to mention, that low velocity loads don't give up as much velocity when shot them from a short barrel, but not everyone is happy with 2300.

I'm not much of pump guy myself, but I've always had a grudging admiration for the 760/7600's accuracy, which out of the box is often better than an unaltered bolt gun of the same price. I'm a little surprised they aren't more popular in the west; a carbine length rifle that is accurate, shoots flat and fast, and has a flat profile would be perfect for the horseback hunter. I do admit that I am taken with the features of this rifle in particular; its chambered for a powerful round, it is light and short, it is parkerized, and it has ghost ring and post sights.

I would have preferred a 20" version because I don't want to have to wear hearing protection in the field or give up longer shots, but it all comes down to what a guy wants and what trade-offs he's prepared to make. The downside of a pump or a lever action for that matter is that you must break your support to work the action when shooting from a supported position, where you do not with a bolt gun or a gas gun.
