I recently bought a used Remington 783 in .223. When I looked up the serial number the first two letters (RA) indicated a manufacture date of November 2006, but the 783 were supposed to be produced from 2013. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I think you are mixing up the barrel date codes with serial number, not sure if the 783's use the barrel date codes, if all else fails just contact Remington. Mine also starts with RA but was made in 2017 (I emailed Remington as i bought it used).

I think the ra is the un marking. Ra remington arms. I could be wrong. I have a 16.5" heavy barrel so marked and i believe those only came out last year

The letters appear as the start of the serial number. and the site I used was googled under Remington Serial Numbers. I am hoping to take it to the range tomorrow and sight it in. I was only trying to date it for my own curiosity. Thank you for the replies I will probably ask Remington some time down the road.

The rifle is in good condition, and for what I paid if it shoots half decently I have a great gun. I am hoping that I might get an opportunity to hunt again if some farmer needs coyote/gopher control; if not it will be a lot easier on my arthritic shoulder than my Lee Enfield for target shooting.

Good shooting everyone

Range Day. Superb accuracy. I did not even have to adjust the scope. first group two flyers (my fault) 3 rounds 12 o'clock 1 inch above dead centre covered by a quarter. I fired 5x 5 round groups, other than adjusting my position and eye relief, and trigger pull, accounting for a few flyers I had three very decent groups. Took the gun back to the store and they adjusted the scope for my eye relief and I am sure I can expect really good grouping in the future.
