Just a quick question, I an going to buy a Remington 783, from Cabela's I have a $50. Gift certificate and there is a $40 rebate right now, they are on for $299. So I want one for a backup hunting rifle this fall! It will be used for anything from Moose on down! I was wondering which caliber would be best, 30 06 or 7mm rem mag. I am leaning towards the 7mm rem mag. looking at shots not past 500 -600 yards max.! Has anyone bought one of these in either caliber? I hear good things about them.
Thanks for your input.
Cheers Bob

Same here dude, I bought one in .308 as a back up rifle, awesome rifle man, totally shoots SUB MOA at 100 if you do your job using hand loads.

The only problems I have read of are sometimes they don't feed well and an occasional sloppy bolt! However mostly good reviews!
I can have one of these in 7mm rem mag or 30-06 for less that $250 taxes in delivered to my door! There is a $40 rebate and I have a gift cert for $50 burning a hole in my Wallet!

Got one in 7mm last year shoots 3/8in groups after broken in with cheap stuff , groups shot with Nosler 140 gr custom factory ammo
Rifle might be cheap but sure as hell shoots!

i have one in 30 06 its a great gun. good mag, good trigger, feeds good, good weight. it felt a bit clunky to chamber but after a few hundred rounds its nice now. the bolt is not sloppy. i like it.

I think they dropped the price because they are coming out with a camo version, I will take the black stock for $100 cheaper!! Going to order tomorrow morning! Thanks for the comments!
Edit, ordered the 7mm RM, I called at 8:30 am forgot about time diff in Winnipeg, so the girl who answered was pretty groggy but powered through the order and its on the way, back ordered the weaver bases! Stoked the see what you get for less than $300!!!

Yessir, camo 30'06 I got from wanstalls last year when they had a sale for $299. At the time there was $60 mail in rebates so I got that, had 2x $50 gift cards from trigger recalls so I got some extra mags and the REM Talley type ring/bases. Nice cheap gun that shoots very well.

$299 for a camo, that's a great price, my rebate is only $40 but still good, I didn't have a 30-06 or 7mm RM so went with the 7mm this time, I have a 9.3x62 husq that needs a new stock which will be my big bore Moose etc. gun!! If this one turns out good I might have to get the 30-06 too,,, at that price why not! I am not sure how they made them so cheap and accurate, maybe the barrel won't last long but as a hunting rifle, I am not going to put a crazy amount of rounds through it! Thanks again! Oh yea the talley type rings and bases,, do they come as a set, I seen a video of a fella reviewing something like that,, what is the price on those?

Interesting that Cabela's .com has the 783 on sale for $259.99 U.S. Which is around $320 Canadian, $20 more than Cabela's .ca has it on sale for! My Savage .338 LM HS was also the same price in CDN. As the American site had it in U.S.

You can still get a NIB 700 ADL down there for $350US....they still get much better deals.

Medium REM integral rings, using an old model 3-9x40 Bushnell Legend, fits fine, nice and solid.

There is quite a bit of space between the mounting holes, and with Weaver bases I couldn't get the scope back far enough for the proper eye relief. These integral rings gave me a bit more room to play with and it worked out better. If I was going to go Weaver, EGW make a one piece rail that I might try. I'm still hoping someone comes out with an oval aluminum trigger guard....that's one of the eyesores on these rifles.

i have an extended front weaver base on mine so i can get the scope farther back only i dont think its weaver it might be burris
