788's don't have bottom metal with a spring hinged floor plate. They've always been single stack mag fed rifles. - danI had a 788 in .223, it was the definition of feeding issues. I bought a brand new take off bottom metal with the follower spring hinged floor plate off of a guy who was putting his new rifle in a chassis with a magazine system. It fit perfectly with minor modifications to my stock; feeding issues persisted.
That rifle was very accurate, but the feeding issues pissed me so off that I sent it down the road with full disclosure.
Yes, mine was that way originally, I installed a new, take off, as I posted above: " It fit perfectly with minor modifications to my stock; feeding issues persisted."788's don't have bottom metal with a spring hinged floor plate. They've always been single stack mag fed rifles. - dan
There never was any "new take off" bottom metal with hinged floor plate made for 788's. - danYes, mine was that way originally, I installed a new, take off, as I posted above: " It fit perfectly with minor modifications to my stock; feeding issues persisted."
Blind magazine or brand factory new bottom metal with hinged floor plate, follower, spring all original to the bottom metal, feeding was still piss-poor.
Yes, from a model 700. They were, for the most part identical to the ADL, just not finished quite as nice, and in a hardwood (birch?) stock. I think mine would have maybe been built in the early 80s. It shot well, just did not feed. Are you sure you aren't thinking of a 700? There was never a bottom metal setup for the 788 which used a hinged floorplate, nor a blind magazine version.
The detachable 788 magazine latches to an L shaped bracket screwed to the receiver. The magazine catch is part of the magazine.
I've owned a half dozen 78's. Still have a couple. As long as they had the correct spring and follower, I never had an issue with them. Maybe someone messed around with it before you got it. - danYes, from a model 700. Yes, I thought of that, which is why I went with the new 700 bottom metal assembly. No difference. If that rifle had fed properly, I would still have it. But in all honesty, going back to the 6.5 x 55 se in a new Zastava rifle, gives both the accuracy and reliability I want in a rifle.I've owned a half dozen 78's. Still have a couple. They had 788 magazines in stock back in February, haven't checked recently though. - danNumrich will be at least double the price they list at. They may have parts?
