I see "Frontier Firearms" has remington mauser based action in 30-06 and 270 wood and syntetic stock. Price is good and I am being tempted to buy it so any reviews on these guns?

Regards.

IIRC they are made in the Zastava works in Serbia.
I have one such sold by Interarms Corp. in the 1980s, it is OK, but recent word on last year's 798 said the Machining can be rough, and chamber might need to be cleaned up by a gunsmith.

Or buy an older Parker Hale, put a synthetic or laminated stock on it, and off you go. Most of them had Iron sights as well, and like the Energizer bunny, they just keep going and going and going............... Great guns! I have had several, always keep one around, love them.

PM if you need some specific's on them.

I see you find it unsuitable because of the iron sights, most hunting guns these days come without iron sights. Other than iron sights do you think gun is good, which would be better wood or synthetic stock?
What is so great about Parker Hale. By the way does Parker Hale still makes guns?

Regards.

Parker Hales are a rugged rifle based on the Mauser 98 action. To me a rifle like the 798 which is supposed to be a throw back to the Mauser 98 should have open sights. To me its a huge omission.

If you're looking for something on a Commercial Mauser, check out Trade Ex. They have a few different types, including some brand new Zastavas, and some FN based Husqvarnas.

X2 on Tradex.

AFAIK Remington has stopped bringing in the 798 and 799 for 2009. If you want one of these, get them while you can...
