Remington 799

They look really good but they aren't a smooth action. The one I had was a little rough and almost needed a snipe on the bolt handle to operate it. It might have loosened up after a couple hundred rounds but it is gone.

I picked up a 799 in 22-250 when Bass Pro had them on for 399.99 last May.

Same rifle as an Interarms Mini Mark X or the later Charles Daly Mini Mauser. It comes with a laminated stock. Bluing, fit and finish is nice.

Trigger, about a 10 lb pull and 4 miles of creep. It's the same trigger that the Interarms rifles had back in the 80's. After referring to the Frank de Hass book, I was able to get the trigger down to between 3-4 lbs, with no creep. The adjustment screws are coated with thick blobs of some type of epoxy. I was able to remove this by using lacquer thinner and a small brush.

My action was sticky and rough, I was able to improve it by some careful polishing, then cleaning and reoiling. Cycling the action a few hundred times while watching TV helped too! It's a lot better now.

It was a good deal at 399.00. WSS wanted 799.00 from them originally, I think they are down now to 699.00. I don't know if I would pay that much for one.

Mine needs to be bedded. It shot really well for the first few groups, then things went downhill a bit. The same thing happened to a friend of mine with the same rifle. I'm still playing with it.

It's a neat rifle all in all. Light, short, fast handling.

If Le Barons has them for 479.00, worth getting one.

They are made in the former Yugoslavia by Zastava, who also make the 798 for Remington.

Zastava has been building M98's since WW2, they make good stuff.

Welcome to the forums btw MICKI!

for Ontario varmits it's an excellent combo - 22hornet is accurate, cheap to shoot, not too loud in built up areas and the Rem 799 action is a mauser - nuff said. have fun
