Hi eveyone
So backstory is someone gave me a Remington 812 12ga single shot shotgun that sat somewhere in their basement for i dont know how many decade and the gun is in pisspoor shape. I have handled my fair share of crusty milsurps bolt action over the year but shotgun are something i never really got my hands on. Right now im left with a receiver and barrel and im looking to see if someone with know how has any experience stripping one of these. I can see a few pins here and there but first im asking if there is any kind of order to go for pieces not to go flying out over the place. Im looking to get everything out so the whole trigger/hammer assembly on the receiver and the extractor and its spring on the barrel. Here is a general pic to show where im at.

Any help is appreciated, thanks for reading.

Made in Brazil by Boita the plastic button to open the action is especially fragile as well as the trigger guard. Parts largely unavailable. If it's working why tear it down? 0000steel wool and gun oil scrub to the exterior.

I've worked on these many times, sometimes the third hand is useful. I am in agreement, don't tear it down if not needed, clean it up and use it. Scrub the bore well, the ejector system doesn't like dirty chambers.

Hows the bore??

Bore is what i would qualify as “god awful”. Chamber is extremely heavily pitted. Not that deep, but from the chamber up to 10-12 inch is pitted. Little bit of slight shine in the middle and then pitting pick up again up to the muzzle.

I guess i could maybe get away with not stripping the receiver cause it doesnt look as bad in there as outside but the ejector and spring must come out, they are heavily rusted and i want to boil the whole barrel to loosen as much crap as i can. It look to be in working order but i have no idea if it will even extract with such a pitted chamber. At worst it will go up on the wall forever but if i can get it working its even better.
